Hi, I’m Meg.

In 2023, I was worried about pollution in my local River Avon - so I decided to marry the river in an attempt to raise awareness.

The story of this act of love and protest captivated hearts and minds, and it was the start of my river wife career.

I am now a full time river rights campaigner and researcher”

I work with various organisations, academics and individuals to continue to raise awareness of the problem of river pollution and the urgent need to protect our bodies of water, for my Avon and many other waterways.

My story featured in the documentary Rave On For The Avon, which celebrated a unique Bristolian blend of art, activism, great music and humour.

I have published a river-themed poetry book My Avon and have hosted a series of sold-out poetry evenings, weaving together art, performance, and environmental consciousness.

There are three strands to my work:

  • Artistic storytelling through performance poetry

  • Coordination of grassroots action groups accross the Avon Catchment with We Are Avon

  • Research, creation and the implementation of a River Charter of rights with local councils and the University of the West of England

The three dovetail quite beautifully and maintain the power that my wedding intially held - art, action, love and law to make lasting beneficial change.
